The Menstrual Cup and Swimming, Tips and Answers

Most of us are happy with the arrival of summer because we can enjoy the sun, the beach or the swimming pool, but the thought comes to many of us: hmm my period has come, I’d better stay at home, I can’t enjoy myself or feel comfortable like this. In my case, when that happened, I limited myself during those days to stay quietly at home, accepting that this was the way it was.

In this video you will find all the information you need:

The first summer I spent using the menstrual cup, the staying at home thing became a thing of the past. That’s one of the many benefits of this little cup. Thanks to it, my attitude towards the limitations I used to have due to menstruation changed, and today I live happily! My menstruation no longer limits me, but accompanies me silently.

Can I bathe or swim with my menstrual cup?

Yes, you can bathe with your menstrual cup without worrying. In fact, did you know that the menstrual cup does not absorb chlorine, bacteria or swimming pool pee? But the tampon string does… Due to the composition of the PERIODINO menstrual cup and the fact that it does not absorb fluids, the risk of infection and fungus is much lower than using tampons in water.

The only advice is to empty it before swimming to make sure that the cup does not fill up in the middle of your day at the beach or pool.

Without a doubt, the menstrual cup is a must-have in summer, especially if you’re spending time at the beach or pool. It’s comfortable (sometimes you’ll forget you’re wearing it), you can wear it without changing for up to 12 hours, and it’s really easy to use.

What about swimming or diving with it on?

Swimming with a menstrual cup is comfortable, safe and more hygienic than using a tampon. In fact, many professional swimmers use them.

As for diving or snorkelling with a menstrual cup, no problem either! There is no problem at all with using a menstrual cup while diving, on the contrary, it is very comfortable. And you can go for hours without having to worry about changing it.

Many women have doubts about the vacuum effect the cup creates. But this is not entirely true. The PERIODINO menstrual cup has holes in the upper rim, even though it keeps water out. So you don’t have to worry about water pressure either.

How to transport and store the menstrual cup?

Going on holiday with the menstrual cup is one of the best options to experience menstruation without limitations. You can bathe with your menstrual cup in, sunbathe, kayak, go on a trip or excursion, travel by plane, sleep with it… All this is more comfortable than using a tampon, and with the advantage that you can wear it for longer without worrying about it.

Carrying your menstrual cup while travelling is not a problem as it is so small that it will take up much less space than a sanitary towel or a box of tampons. Remember to carry it sterilised and in its cotton pouch to keep it protected.

Is it difficult to go to the beach with your period?

Not with a cup anymore! You will be able to enjoy it without worrying about it. Those days when you had to go to the public toilets to change your tampon, or go looking slyly to see if your swimming costume had a spot on it are now a thing of the past. You can sunbathe, cool off in the sea, sit on your towel and share a couple of pleasant moments with friends. How wonderful!!!!

You will probably find that when you are a menstrual cup user you will notice that among all the rubbish on the beach you will see applicators, pad wrappers and some used tampons on the shore. You’ll be glad you’re no longer (unwittingly) co-responsible for that waste and you’ll probably tell a friend about it.

What are the advantages of using a menstrual cup on the beach?

It’s reusable

You don’t need to carry anything else

It’s economical, and what you save on other disposable products you can spend on enjoying your holiday.

You can wear it for up to 12 hours.

You can clean it anywhere with clean water.

Takes up little space

You are less likely to suffer from infections and fungus.

What do I do if I don’t have access to clean water? How do I wash it?

I would recommend that you always carry a bottle of water with you (small is plenty). Even if you are in the most remote place in the world, you will be able to wash it and enjoy another 12 hours! 💃
